THE YOUTH ZONE STORY

WOLVERHAMPTON YOUTH ZONE STORY

WHY WOLVERHAMPTON? Our story began back in 2012 when Wolverhampton City Council in partnership with local business people saw the OnSide Youth Zone model in other towns and cities and as a result wanted to give the young people of Wolverhampton access to a Youth Zone, and the benefits it can bring for the whole community. Championed by successful entrepreneur, Steve Morgan CBE and with additional backing from the Steve Morgan Foundation, The Queen’s Trust and St James’s Place Foundation, this once-in-a-lifetime project is now a reality for the city’s young people since January 2016. Find out more about our supporters here. On Saturday 16th January 2016 we officially opened our doors to young people. Ever since then we’ve been offering young people 8-19 or up to 25 with a disability over 20 activities every night.

What's The Way Youth Zone

The Way Main Entrance

AN ICONIC, STATE OF THE ART BUILDING

The Way is right next to the skate park in the city centre. We’re built on a triangular plot of land (just under 4,000m² if you like a good stat) on School Street between Little Brickklin Street just off the Penn Road roundabout.

The Way Youth Zone cost £5.5 million to build and has state of the art facilities from an awesome 3G out door pitch to an incredible indoor climbing wall.

CREATING A BRAND

The Way is more than just a name, it is a brand that reflects the values our new Youth Zone represents. We worked closely with young people from the city to understand what they wanted to get out of the Youth Zone.

We’re somewhere to go, something to do, someone to talk to.

WHY THE WAY

"“It has been amazing to see my daughter out grow her fears and get involved more with other children of all ages and disabilities. I am, as she is, so pleased that Wolverhampton has a place where all children can be themselves and do activities that they enjoy…”"

WHY THE WAY

"“Had a fab evening at The Way, Wolverhamptons new youth zone. Great facilities. Lovely staff. Signed both the boys up as members and have had to drag them both away after 3 hours even though none of us have been home for tea yet!”"
