Political leaders, employers, educators and young people will come together at The Way Youth Zone on 18 September to discuss one of the biggest challenges facing young people today.
The event, Young People, Work and Opportunity: Wolverhampton’s Response to the NEET Challenge, will explore why increasing numbers of young people are not in education, employment or training (NEET) and what can be done to help change that.
Hosted at The Way Youth Zone and sponsored by Paycare, the discussion will bring together local and national decision-makers, employers, education providers and young people with lived experience. The aim is to share ideas, highlight challenges and identify practical ways to create more opportunities for young people across Wolverhampton.
The event will be chaired by Chris Allen from WCR and will feature contributions from Pat McFadden, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, local MPs Warinder Juss and Sureena Brackenridge, representatives from the City of Wolverhampton Council, employers, educators and young people.
Recent national reports have highlighted growing concerns about the number of young people who are not in education, employment or training. The discussion will look at why some young people become disconnected, what support they need, and how partners across the city can work together to provide better pathways into education, training and work.
Topics will include:
- The challenges facing young people today
- The barriers that can lead to disengagement
- What employers, schools and communities can do to help
- Ideas and solutions that could improve opportunities for young people in Wolverhampton and beyond
At The Way Youth Zone, we see every day the difference that early support, trusted relationships and positive opportunities can make. This event is part of a wider commitment to ensuring that every young person has the chance to build a bright future, whatever challenges they may face.
