From 2nd to 9th December, we’re celebrating Youth Work Week at The Way Youth Zone. It’s a chance to say thank you to our amazing 38 youth workers who support over 2,500 young people across Wolverhampton.
This year’s theme is “Building Brighter Futures: Safe places, trusted support and opportunities to thrive.” That’s exactly what we aim to do at The Way. Every weekday evening, our youth workers run more than 20 fun activities, such as climbing, dance, music, boxing, art, cooking and team sports. These sessions help young people grow in confidence, learn new skills and find what they love.
But youth work is about more than just activities. Our youth workers are mentors, listeners and role models. They bring energy, kindness and care to every session. They make sure every young person feels welcome, heard and respected.
“Youth work is about being that trusted adult in a young person’s life,” says Jead, one of our youth workers. “Sometimes we’re a coach, sometimes a cheerleader, sometimes just someone to talk to. It’s about showing up and helping young people believe in themselves.”
Our Outreach Team is also out in the city every weekday evening. They meet young people where they are and help them get the support they need, including our walking bus service between the bus station and The Way.
As we get ready to celebrate our 10th birthday in January, we’re thinking about all the young lives we’ve been part of and how youth work continues to help young people build brighter futures.
We invite everyone in the community to join us in celebrating Youth Work Week and recognising the passion and impact of youth workers, here in Wolverhampton and across the UK.
